Anxiety can be reduced through deep breathing exercises. It takes just a few minutes of your time and can bring almost instant relief. The good news is that it is safe enough to use in conjunction with other anxiety treatment. Not to mention, your breath is something you have with you all the time.
For good deep breathing to relieve anxiety, you want to get yourself into a comfortable position and peaceful place. If at your desk at work, go to a quiet area such as; break room, bathroom or close your office door. Close your eyes and take in a deep breath through your nose. Breath in all the way down to your lower abdomen filling your lungs with air. Hold it for just a few seconds and breathe out very slowly through your mouth. Repeat this process slowly to avoid hyperventilation for about three to five minutes. Before you know it, you will begin to feel more peaceful and relaxed and the anxiety symptoms will diminish.
Deep Breathing during an anxiety attack is the first line of defense against them. The slower and deeper you breathe the better. If you use this technique on a regular basis you will quickly find your anxiety much more manageable.
